In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
Proverbs 14:23
When I was little my uncle gave me a stone that was in a shape of a bowl. He told me that the Indians in Arizona would take a two stones and use them to crush the corn into flour. One stone was cylindrical and used by the hand to crush the corn in the bowl. Whenever I reflect on those stones I am amazed how the constant grinding can wear down the stones and shape them over time.
A theme for me this year is "Constant dripping hollows out a stone". Imagine that a drip of water could put a hole in a rock. I could spend all day with my thumbs and I would never be able to put a hole through that rock. But by water, little by little, drop by drop a hole will form. This is just a reminder for me to whittle away at my task to eventually get them done. One of my fears is that after January I'll forget what I set my sights on to try and accomplish this year. But if it can be done little by little, drop by drop eventually a habit begins to form and the task soon becomes complete. Do you have a task that you would like to accomplish this year?
Today's Theme
God says in all kinds of work there is some kind of profit in it. Just talking about it won't get the job done.
