Our theme this year at church is, "A Sure Foundation" from Isaiah 28:16. And one of the foundational truth of God is that He delights in us. God created us to bring Him joy.
I have some drawings of Jesus that my mom gave me several years ago. What's so striking to me about these drawings is that Jesus is smiling and laughing. Every time I look at these I have to ask myself why I think these are so unusual because there are many instances in the Bible where it says that God delights in us. Often times we imagine God as someone who is stern.
I think back to the days when my children were little and I would spend time with them, laughing, making noises, rolling on the floor or playing peek-a-boo with them. We would laugh and laugh. Well, if I can delight in my children why cannot God delight with His children.
Today's Theme
Laugh with God this new year. As the verse states, The Lord make his face shine upon thee.
