1/7 A Foundation of Satisfaction

Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

Ecclesiastes 6:9
We need to enjoy what we have.  God says that it is meaningless to desire what we do not have.  Whenever we go visit our folks, it's about a three hours drive away.  There is this one spot where I see this billboard every time and on this billboard are a couple of numbers.  One number is the megabucks number and the other number is the powerball number.  And those numbers are always in the millions.  Every time I go by that sign I cannot help but to think what if I could win the lottery.  What would I do with that money?  Then for the next hour as I'm driving down the road, I'm dreaming of all the stuff that I would do with they money.  You've done that scenario too.  Oh, we would give our family money, then we would take a trip or open up a new business etc...

Then I would start to snap out of it and think of the potential of what that immediate money could potentially harm.  How would our lives be affected negatively by it.  Pretty soon I realize that I have been wasting my thoughts for an hour thinking of this money that I don't even have.  God says it's meaningless to constantly wander and desire.  Nothing wrong with desire, but it's that constant craving that can consume us and interferes with our lives.  God wants us to realize that what we have are a blessing from Him.  I could have spent that hour thanking God for his blessing.  There are a lot of ways that He blesses us and a lot of those things money can never buy.
