1/17 Making a Difference

There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:  The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

Proverbs 30:25-28

A couple of years ago I joined a service organization called Kiwanis.  The members are volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.  Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis International club, no matter where in the world it’s located.  Kiwanis members stage nearly 150,000 service projects, devote more than 6 million hours of service and raise nearly $100 million every year for communities, families and projects. High School Key Club members pitch in 12 million hours of service each year, and College CKI members another 500,000 hours of service!  Add it all up, and that’s more than 18 million hours of service every year!

Kiwanis was founded in Detroit, Michigan, on January 21, 1915 and it has grown ever since.  Imagine from a small group in 1915 to a huge organization helping children everywhere.  Our local Kiwanis in Klamath provided gifts to specially challenged children last Christmas.  What a joy it was to see them excited opening their gifts.

There is strength in numbers.  God gives several examples in our passage today.  The ant who gathers their food in the summer to store it and the locusts who work together to gather food in swarms.  We can also gather strength in our numbers.  How are you helping today?  Our purpose on this is Earth is to glorify God and one of the ways to do that is to help others like the poor, the children or even someone within your family.

One CAN make a difference.  Pray and ask God how you can help.
