Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.
Nehemiah 10:21
Swollen feet can cause much discomfort. People often wonder that what causes swollen feet. Basically swollen feet or swollen ankle is an excessive fluid that builds up in the muscles, which causes swelling. In other words, there is rapid increase in weight. Slight swelling, which normally occurs in summer, may be due to standing for too long or walking too much. Swelling is also known as edema. Those who remain standing on their feet for too long time often tend to develop swollen feet. This problem is more commonly faced by athletes. But feet and ankles that stay swollen or are accompanied by other symptoms could signal a serious health problem.
For forty years the Israelites wandered in the forest. But as they wandered, God still took care of them because He had made a promise to them. To get them to the promised land as a nation. He provided them light during the day and night to lead them. He provided them water and food. He also provided them protection. But there is something else that God provided them. He took care of their clothes and made it possible that their feet would not swell. In effect no need to go to the Mall to shop for clothes and no need for a doctor to take care of their feet. In effect they had happy feet.
It is awesome that we have a God of details that when He formulates a plan, He leaves nothing out.
