And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Genesis 2:23
Isn't the platypus an odd duck? Here is an animal that definitely looks like it's father was a duck and it's mother was a beaver. Another odd thing about this creature is it's name, platypus. Couldn't it have been named Beak or Buck or maybe even Deaver. For some reason when God gave Adam the job to name the animals, Adam picked the name platypus for this creature. Maybe Adam had to think a while on this one since it was a strange creature. Maybe he ran out of all the easy names, like cow, dog or cat and finally had to use platypus.
I think the easiest name that Adam probably came up with was Woman. I can imagine after seeing all these animals day in and day out, then here steps out this most beautiful being. I bet Adam's heart started beating a little more and his eyes widen and all the words that could come out were, "Whoa Man!" And I bet as those words came out, he probably thought Woman is the perfect name.
Even better than the name of Woman, God has a name that is above all names and that name is Jesus. Adam didn't get to pick that name, because that name was already chosen and already being used. In Philippians 2:9,10 it says, Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Names are precious and God, who knows all things, knows your name.
