Titus 1:2
It's that time of year when we look at ourselves and determine that we need to exercise. We want to look and feel healthy. We want the Arnold Schwarzenegger body when we enter our 70's. As we get older we recognize that our lives on earth are continuing get shorter and shorter. The average life expectancy is 78.2 years.
It's ironic that we will exercise to live longer, but the time we invest into exercising is time taken away from our life. American author Mark Twain noted that "life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of 80 and gradually approach 18."
People for years have tried many different ways to live longer. 16th-century Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon searched for a fountain of youth and allegedly thought it would be found in Florida. Maybe that's why the retirees head to Florida.
Eventually our life on earth will end, but there is another fountian of youth that can be eternal. Jesus said that He is the living water, whoever comes to Him can have everlasting life. In our passage God promises eternal life even before the world began. Instead of searching for a mythical worldly fountain, God says come to me for the real deal.
