1/12 A Foundational Harvest

Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;   Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Matthew 9:37,38

As a child I used to stay at my Uncle Clinton and Aunt Vera's place.  They were out in the country and every year they would gather hay into their barn.  I remember during the harvest how someone would drive a truck through the field while several people would be on the truck and several people on the ground.  They would take the hay bales and toss them onto the truck.  They called this bucking hay.  Today I live near an alfalfa field and I love to watch how hay is loaded.  Now it only takes one person to do it and the hay bales are a lot heavier.  This person drives a truck with a fork in front of it and goes around scooping up the hay bails, lifting it over the truck onto it's bed.  It's an amazing process.

But it still takes a laborer to get the job done.  Someone must till the soil, fertilize the ground, plant the seed, water the alfalfa, cut the alfalfa, bale it, scoop it up, transport it and store it.  There are still multiple steps for this process today.  It's the same in sharing the Good News about Jesus.  It could take many different people helping before someone finally believes in Jesus and has faith that Jesus can deliver them to Heaven.  Jesus says that there are not many people willing to put out the effort and there are a lot of people who ready to hear about Jesus.  How is your effort this year?
